I started a new art journal last week. I call it my “daily sketchbook.” Sometimes I wonder if my hobby is art journalling or if my hobby is starting new journals..
I bought it on impulse, from the sale bin (a 2013 daily planner with a blue hard cover) and I started to carry it around, along with a fine-tipped uniball. Then, I started writing in it, and sketching, and ..I even started doing it daily! Seriously. Not just a slow ease into it either, I mean like pages a day. The fun, the boring, the maddening, the time-filling.. it’s all happening in here. I’m not sure if I’ll keep it up or not, I imagine it’ll be my go-to during busy times, with more focus on my “art journals” (mixed media, painting, time-requiring things) when I have more time to sit down in the evenings.. like in winter. Until then, I’m really enjoying this sketchbook and the things happening in it. Sometimes you just have to enable yourself a little more, find the ways that work for you. I now feel like I’m being more artful, even when I’m overwhelmed with busy ..even if it is just a word, a little sketch or a note here or there.
How do you keep up with your art during busy times?
